The Hamlet, Laurie Baker

the entry toward the hamlet

I was there on 9th February. The feelings I had there while experiencing the spaces can neither be expressed in words nor in the photographs. One has to be there to understand the depth and meaning of the spaces.

At first I felt astonished while roaming inside the Hamlet and then I felt almost helpless because using the conventional perceptions I couldn’t measure the formation of this beautiful building. I couldn’t even create a metal map of the plan of the building; it was so complex in its formation, yet so simple and humble in its expression. I wish I could go there over and over again, stay there as long as I want and enjoy the architecture of Laurie Baker.

Detail information of this building can be found in the book “Laurie Baker: Life, works and writings” by Gautam Bhatia. This book is available in “Modern Book Center”, G.A. Kovil road, Trivandrum. There are some videos available on youtube also.
